The Chief Rabbi’s prayer for Israel
Our Father in Heaven, Rock and Redeemer of Israel.
We come before You in prayer and supplication, stunned and heartbroken by the merciless atrocities carried out against our beloved State of Israel and its People, turning the Festival of our Rejoicing into a day of our suffering.
We mourn the loss of many hundreds of women, men and children brutally murdered in these attacks and pray for their souls.
We pray for the speedy recovery of the thousands who are injured.
And may the Holy One, blessed be He, have compassion on those who are being held hostage and enable them to emerge from the darkness of the shadow of death to their freedom; may He break their bonds, deliver them from distress, and bring them swiftly home to their families’ embrace.
Almighty God, protect the families of Israel from the threat of terror and give strength to the soldiers of the Israel Defence Forces, whose lives are in danger as they confront our enemies.
Put into the hearts and minds of Israel’s political and military leaders the wisdom to make the right decisions to bring this conflict to a swift and successful conclusion, so that innocent civilians can resume their lives without the fear and threat of attack.
Spread over the inhabitants of Your land the tabernacle of Your peace, as it is written:
“I will grant peace in the Land; you will lie down and none shall make you afraid. And the sword will not pass through your land.”
May You, Almighty God, bless us all with security and tranquillity and grant a true, just and lasting peace in our Holy Land and across the entire world.
“May He who makes peace in high places, bring peace for us and for all the people of Israel.”
אָבִינוּ שֶׁבַּשָמַּיִם, צוּר יִשְׂרָאֵל וְׂגוֹאַּלוֹ
בָאנוּ לְׂפָנֶׁיךָ בִתְׂפִלָה וּבְׂתַּחֲנוּנִים, תְׂמֵהִים וּשְׂבוּרֵי לֵב עַּל הַּמַּכּוֹת הָאַּכְׂזָרִיּוֹת
.אֲשֶׁר הֻכְּׂתָה אַּרְׂצֵנוּ הַּקְׂדשָה וְׂעַּמְׂךָ יִשְׂרָאֵל, ביּוֹם אַּשֶׁר הָפְׂכָה חַּגֵנוּ לָאֵבֶׁל
,אָנוּ מִתְׂאַּבְׂלִים עַּל אָבְׂדָן מֵאוֹת אֲנָשִים נָשִים וְׂטַּף אַּשֶׁר נִרְׂצְׂחוּ בְׂזָדוֹן
.וּמִתְׂפַּלְׂלִים עַּל נַּפְׂשּוֹתָם
.אָבִינוּ מַּלְׂכֵּנוּ, שְׂלַּח רְׂפוּאָה שְׂלֵמָה לְׂאַּלְׂפֵי פְׂצוּעֵי עַּמֶׁךָ
,אָבִינוּ מַּלְׂכּנוּ, רַּחֵם עַּל אַּחֵינוּ הַּשְׂבוּיִים, וְׂהוֹצִיאֵם מֵאֲפֵלָה וְׂצַּלמָוֶׁת לִגְׂאֻלָה
מוֹסְׂרוֹתֵיהֶׁם תְׂפַּתַּח וּמִמְׂצוּקוֹתֵיהֶׁם הַּצִילֵם, וְׂהָשִיבֵם מְׂהֵרָה לְׂחֵיק
.מִשְׂפְׂחוֹתֵיהֶׁם
אָבִינוּ מַּלְׂכֵּנוּ, הָגֵן עַּל מִשְׂפְׂחוֹת יִשְׂרָאֵל מֵאֵימַּת מָוֶׁת, וְׂחַּזֵק חַּיְּׂלֵי צְׂבָא
.הַּהֲגָנָה לְׂיִשְׂרָאֵל, אַּשֶׁר שָמִים נַּפְׂשָם בְׂכַּפָם בְׂהַּצְׂבִיאָם לִקְׂרַּאת אוֹיְׂבֵינוּ
אָבִינוּ מַּלְׂכֵּנוּ, אַּשֶׁר בְׂיָדְׂךָ לֵב מְׂלָכִים וְׂשָרִים, תַּקֵן בְׂעֵצָה טוֹבָה מִלְׂפָנֶׁיךָ אֶׁת
.שָרֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל לְׂנַּצֵחַּ ְׂ במִלְׂחַּמְׂתָם, כְּׂדֵי שֶׁיִּהְׂיוּ תוֹשֲבֶׁיהָ שַּאֲנַּנִים מֵאֵין מַּחְׂרִיד
:אָבִינוּ מָלַּכְׂנוּ, פְׂרוֹש סֻכַּּת שְׂלוֹמֶׁךָ עַּל יוֹשְׂבֵי אַּרְׂצֶׁךָ, כַּּכָּתוּב
וְׂנָתַּתִי שָלוֹם בָאָרֶׁץ וּשְׂכַּבְׂתֶׁם וְׂאֵין מַּחֲרִיד וְׂהִשְׂבַּתִי חַּיָּה רָעָה מִן הָאָרֶׁץ
.וְׂחֶׁרֶׁב לאֹ תַּעֲבֹר בְׂאַּרְׂצְׂכֶׁם
בָרְׂכֵנוּ אָבִינוּ בְׂבִטָחוֹן וְׂשַּלְׂוָה, וְׂשִים שָלוֹם אֲמִתִי וְׂקַּיָּם עַּל מְׂדִינַּת יִשְׂרָאֵל וְׂעַּל
.כָּל יוֹשְׂבֵי תֵבֵל אַּרְׂצֶׁךָ
.עוֹשֶׁה שָלוֹם בִמְׂרוֹמָיו הוּא יַּעֲשֶׁה שָלוֹם עָלֵינוּ וְׂעַּל כָּל יִשְׂרָאֵל וְׂאִמְׂרוּ אָמֵן
