Office of the Chief Rabbi

Marriage Authorisation

Welcome to the Marriage Authorisation department at the Office of the Chief Rabbi. If you are visiting this page we hope it is for your forthcoming marriage or that of a relative, and wish you Mazal Tov at this special time.

In order to be married through the United Synagogue, it is necessary that you make contact with the Office of the Chief Rabbi to arrange a marriage authorisation meeting. This meeting is the formal element in the marriage process. At this meeting you will be required to produce evidence to establish your Jewish status and eligibility to marry in accordance with Jewish Law.

To ensure that the process runs smoothly, we ask that you please read the Notes to the Bride and Groom, which explain how to obtain a marriage authorisation, lists the documents needed for your meeting and refers to registering your marriage with your local authority.

Please also take time to read the information on the Pre-Nuptial Agreement (PNA) and the merits of signing this important document prior to your marriage.

You may have many other questions or need help knowing where to find the required documents so we are here to help you, please contact Lindi Wigman, Marriage Liaison, either by email or on 020 8343 6314.
