The Chief Rabbi and Valerie Mirvis have just returned to London following a brief visit to Johannesburg and Cape Town.

A large gathering of the Jewish community of Johannesburg came together to hear the Chief Rabbi address them at the Sydenham Highlands North Synagogue. The Chief Rabbi spent Shabbat with the Mizrachi Community in Glenhazel, where the Synagogue was packed to capacity for his Friday night sermon and Shabbat morning shiur. The Chief Rabbi also addressed the Bnei Akiva community, the Oz Vehadar service and the Ohr Somayach community.

He enjoyed speaking at a businessman’s lunch, a special breakfast and a ladies learning event, all organised by Rabbi Ramon Widmonte of The Academy. The Chief Rabbi was delighted to meet with Chief Rabbi Warren Goldstein and the Dayanim of the Johannesburg Beth Din, together with senior Rabbis of the Johannesburg Jewish community.

The Chief Rabbi proceeded to Cape Town, where he addressed a highly successful solidarity rally for Israel that was attended by thousands of people. He met with the leaders of Herzlia School and was thrilled to spend a morning at the school where he had been a pupil. All pupils of both the Middle and High schools came together to hear the Chief Rabbi address them.
