The Chief Rabbi takes ‘IsrACTION’

Yesterday, Mill Hill United Synagogue received the Chief Rabbi on the occasion of both a community simcha and a pro-Israel charity drive.

Chief Rabbi Mirvis issued a blessing and Chanukah-themed message to some of the community’s newest additions in a baby blessing ceremony in the shul, before proceeding to the congregation’s ‘IsrACTION’ collection point for Israeli-branded food products. Here he donated goods to be redistributed to both Jewish and non-Jewish charities supplying food banks and homeless shelters. Launched by North West and Sussex Friends of Israel, the initiative was borne of a desire to situate Israeli goods in a positive context following the rise of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement.

The Chief Rabbi rounded off his visit by speaking to Cheder students about the significance of the Chanukah candles and wishing them a ‘Chanukah Sameach.’
